Windwall runs entirely on your own device. In plain language, here is the small amount of data the Windwall website and app handle.
Your network activity stays with you
Windwall watches connections and manages firewall rules locally on your computer. The list of connections it shows, the rules it creates, and your security settings never leave your machine — there is no cloud, no account, no tracking, and nothing phoning home about what you do.
Shield's blocklist
With Shield turned on, Windwall downloads our list of known-malicious addresses about once a day so it stays current. Our web server does not record the addresses that ask for it, and the request itself says nothing about your connections — it simply fetches the same public list every Shield user gets.
Buying Pro
If you buy Windwall Pro, the payment is handled by Stripe. We receive your email address so we can send your license key and receipt. We never see your card details.
Your license
When you unlock Pro on a device, the app checks your key with us so it stays within the device limit. We store only the key, your computer's name so you can tell your own devices apart, a scrambled code that stands for that computer, and which version of Windwall last checked in — never your firewall rules, and never anything Windwall sees on your network.
That code is worked out on your own machine and mixed with your licence key before it is sent, so it can't be traced back to your computer or matched against anything else. It exists only so your devices can be told apart — otherwise one licence could be used on any number of machines.
Like any request to any website, the check reaches us from an IP address. We do not store it. We keep a one-way fingerprint of the surrounding network instead, and use it for one thing: noticing when a single licence starts turning up on far more networks than one person could be using. It is a count and nothing more — it can't be turned back into an address, or tell us where you are.
Feedback
If you send feedback from inside the app, we receive your message and the app version. Adding your email address is optional.
Website
Our website counts visits in aggregate so we know roughly how many people drop by. No cookies, no personal data, and no following you around the web.
